Our School
Mission and Vision
Welcome to Silver Beach Elementary School. Our school is striving for excellence in educating the whole child. We believe each child is unique and learns through a variety of approaches, active engagement and empowerment. Setting high expectations and through the development of strong connections, the individual child can achieve what he or she strives toward.
A change in leadership provides the opportunity to pause and reflect. As a school community, this fall and winter, we are identifying the practices we need to preserve to insure our continued effectiveness with children and areas for growth. We are collaboratively considering our vision for the future.
History
Silver Beach Elementary School has been a part of our community for over 100 years. From the one room schoolhouse on the clear cut hill, to the high tech facility that it is today, Silver Beach provides students with a positive place to learn and grow.
Next time you are at Silver Beach be sure to take a walk down the main hall and look at the photos of the Silver Beach School neighborhood of long ago. We live and work in an area that is rich in local history. Imagine walking down Academy Street and watching the ferris wheel at White City going around or the roller coaster zooming up and down with the lake and the Bloedel Donovan Mill in the background. Take a look at the picture of the kids who went to Silver Beach School in 1895. Think about how school was different for them All of these photos are from the archives at the Whatcom Museum.
Special thanks to Jeff Jewell Whatcom Museum photo archivist, for help in this project and to Fairhaven Frames for donating the labor for the framing.
